Choosing iPad accessories is almost as much fun as choosing to buy an iPad in the first place, and Apple have a number of options to pick from. The official iPad accessories include two iPad docks – including an iPad keyboard dock – an iPad case and several iPad adapter cables or dongles.

Most iPad users will consider the iPad keyboard dock, which recharges the iPad as well as offering a full-sized Apple keyboard for text-entry. Several shortcut keys have been adapted especially for use with the iPad, such as a Home button, search button and media playback controls for iTunes. The Apple iPad Keyboard Dock is priced at $69. Apple also offers a second iPad dock, which lacks a QWERTY keyboard. This is intended for recharging the iPad and synchronizing it with iTunes on your Mac or PC.

Apple’s official iPad case is a black folding sleeve with the company’s logo. It hinges open like a folio to give access to the iPad’s touchscreen, and has cutouts for the ports and edge-controls. In addition, the official iPad case can also be used to stand the iPad up for media use or easier text-entry. Two angles are supported. The Apple iPad Case is $39.

As for other iPad accessories, the iPad’s 30-pin Dock connector can be used to connect memory card readers, USB drives or external displays. Apple offer an iPad Camera Connector Kit, which includes two small adapters: an iPad SD card reader and an iPad USB port, which can be used to import photos from digital cameras. The pair of iPad accessory dongles will cost $29. Meanwhile an iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter, again for $29, will hook the Apple iPad up to an external VGA display or projector, ideal for giving Keynote presentations.

Third-party iPad accessories also look likely to flourish, just as with iPod and iPhone accessories. Griffin has announced several iPad cases, including a neoprene iPad slipcase, folio-style Elan Passport case, and a silicone iPad skin to keep the iPad’s case free of scratches. Griffin also has an iPad screen protector, which adheres using static and gives the iPad display a matte finish.

Belkin have also announced a range of iPad accessories, which will start with several budget iPad cases. The Belkin Vue Sleeve is a neoprene iPad slipcase with an external smartphone pocket for your iPhone, while the Belkin Max Sleeve uses pleated neoprene so as to expand to fit the iPad and other accessories. Finally the Belkin iPad Grip Sleeve is a laser-etched silicone skin for the iPad. Belkin also have an iPad screen protector.

  1. i personally plan on picking up everything except the Keyboard Dock
  2. Why isn't the keyboard dock something you're interested in picking up? Do you think the on-screen keyboard will suffice for the majority of things you plan on doing with the iPad?
  3. well for me it will with the iPad Case because i plan on using it primarily in Landscape view to utilize the full size (almost) keyboard
  4. I personally think that if apple comes out with OTA updates they will do it only for small updates and will not completely overhaul the firmware unless there is a major update. convert quicktime and how many phones are still waiting to get froyo.. and oh. dont get me started about gingerbread i find it funny that google has to make up names for the os updates, to hide the fact that they dont do anything besides fix more and more bugs and try to save battery life.
  5. Same here. The only time I had problems when I "upgraded" to the latest firmware. Restore to the latest firmware and restore previous backup works like a charm. rip DVD to Hard Drive ... And so with the same terms as always iPad surf the mobile? Or is there a comparable rate iPad??
  6. Well I would like to win because I like free things and I need to brush up on my math skills extract audio from DVD Definitely the formula case. It looks so refined / comfortable. I hate the car in the car with the Monster cable because the wires are too big to go inside. it looks like even if the hole is not large enough with the phone in and out would be a breeze.
  7. I would say for sure Sprint. Run from the start of the iPhone Apple has taken control of the phones software form of the carrier in a way that was never done before. Other OEM's still bend to the support at every step of naming, bloatware and physical design of devices. If Apple wants to keep checking, it is in their best interest to get as many sources as possible with the iPhone in order to promote competition. Besides at this point, if Apple wants to maximize revenue, they need to have the iPhone in mind as many customers as possible. In fact, many people are not involved in Verizon or AT & T because of cost o switch. I'm an android fan and I want the iPhone to as many carriers as possible, as is the competition between Apple and Google great for us all. I think we're to the point where adoption rates are still Smartphone Lew enough that it got a lot of room for growth, especially for the iPhone, which is easier to learn technophobes. ipod transfer I don't see how Apple is to blame for this especially when copyright law varies from country to country. Probably the reason why the service is available to the US is due to the fact that Apple is based in the US. Apple wants as many people as possible to use their cloud service and if the process of doing so were as easy as some of you make it out to be, they would have done so. Apple can only do so much as far as copyright goes.
